MIRCEA TIBERIAN (RO)
”It never occurred to me that I could be anything else than musician.” (Mircea Tiberian)
Today’s most important jazz musician of Romania, Mircea Tiberian, will be part of our special ”solo piano evening” on June 2nd.
Along the years he has performed the world over with such musicians as Larry Coryel, Tomasz Stanko, Herb Robertson, John Betsch etc. and outstanding Romanian jazz artists such as Johnny Raducanu, Anca Parghel and Dan Mândrilă. As a pianist and composer Mircea Tiberian has been working in the cross-over field of Jazz, Improvisation and New- Music in diverse setups and casts. The work of the last 20 years is documented 19 albums.
Mircea Tiberian is a doctor in music and teaches at the National University of Music in Bucharest coordinating the Jazz Department, which he set up in 1991.
”Educated in the classical tradition, the pianist followed the energetic and intellectual line of instrumental expressivity established by McCoy Tyner and Thelonious Monk in developing his specific instrumental voice. His sound combines the clarity of tone with suggestive elusiveness that results in a perfectly balanced inner dynamism.” (Adriana Cârcu – All About Jazz)
